- About Us
The United Community Clinic is located in the Parkside neighborhood of Philadelphia. Parkside is bordered by West Fairmount Park to the north, the Schuylkill River to the east, Mantua Avenue railroad tracks to the south, and North 52nd Street to the west. These geographic boundaries create significant transportation barriers and make it difficult for many Parkside residents to access medical services. In recognition of this lack of access, UCC collaborates with First African Presbyterian Church and residents associations in East and West Parkside to provide quality primary care services to all Parkside residents.
Parkside has a rich history. The neighborhood was developed following the first United States world’s fair in 1873. Like many Philadelphia neighborhoods, Parkside experienced a significant decline in population during the middle of the 20th century — losing 59% of its residents between 1970 and 1980. In 1983, Parkside was added to the National Registry of Historic Places, and the neighborhood’s characteristic mansions are now being restored. Today, the East Parkside Resident’s Association, Parkside Association, Viola Street Residents Association, and numerous block captains are working with local officials to revitalize the neighborhood.
